SHOW NOTES

HUGO’s show in Berlin on January 19th was a bit like going to heaven, in every sense – not just because of the clothes. The show location resembled what I’d imagine checking in to heaven would look like: the models appeared from a brightly lit ‘door’ onto a glossy catwalk, set beneath sky-high ceilings supported by white columns. Very chic and futuristic. The day started off pretty heavenly too, as we popped by Julianne Moore’s hotel room in the morning for a quick fitting. (Yes, my job rocks.) Moore of course looked stunning in everything, and we decided on a sleek black suit and a crisp white shirt.

When we arrived backstage, things were not quite as calm and serene as Moore’s hotel suite – around lunchtime, the seamstresses were still putting the final touches to all the looks, which meant the clothes didn’t actually arrive until twenty minutes before the show. Panic! But hey, what’s a show without a bit of an adrenaline rush? Thankfully, everything went perfect, although we did have to make one adjustment: originally, über-model Karlie Kloss was meant to close the show, but we swapped her with Danish newcomer Josefine Nielsen. The reason? The stripy floor-length dress looked like a below-the-knee frock on the super tall Karlie.

WALK THIS WAY!

Have you ever wondered who’s in charge of the runway walks at HUGO BOSS? It’s choreographer Carlo Castro, who has worked with so many famous models that it’s hard to keep track. Watch him explain the different walks, talk about his job, his favorite girls, and about how he started his career as a “translator”. And when you are strolling down the street the next time just keep in mind: “Little arms, little hips – that’s the classic walk!”

TOP SECRET TOP MODEL INSIGHTS!

I must admit that I am fascinated by models. Not only are they extremely good-looking and somehow beaming with joy and beauty, but most of them are also friendly, spontaneous and open-minded. At least, this applies to all the models I’ve met so far. So when I ran into top model Mathias Lauridsen and newcomer Josefine Nielsen backstage at the HUGO Fashion Show in Berlin I took the chance to ask them about their job and lifestyle. Luckily our camera team was there to record everything on tape. Hello spontaneity! I hope you enjoy watching Mathias and Josefine, who – by the way – had the honor to close the fashion show, talk about their lifestyle, the new HUGO Fall/Winter 2012 collection and about how they started their careers.

ALL THAT GLITTERS – SNEAK A PEEK BACKSTAGE!

Before a fashion show, the backstage area is abuzz with hair and make-up artists, models, designers, photographers and crew members. The tension is rising and I always admire how the models have learned to block out the noise around them. They’re sitting with their iPads listening to music or skyping with their friends and family. Another thing I love about the backstage area is watching the make-up artists work on the show look. This time, the show look for the girls was all about silver and gold with hair pieces and glitter eyeshadow. Very glamorous and the perfect fit for the minimalist HUGO Fall/Winter 2012 Collection.

The front row at the HUGO Fashion Show Fall/Winter 2012 was packed with celebrities. From actors to it-girls, everyone flew in to Berlin for this highlight. Georgia May Jagger, Jared Leto, Julianne Moore and Sky Ferreira were all dressed up in HUGO for the occasion and demonstrated that the HUGO collection is sexy (see Georgia’s dress), classy (see Julianne’s outfit), outstanding (see blogger Bryanboy’s colorful look) and cool (see Sky and Jared’s looks). SHOWTIME!

Did you watch the fall/winter 2012 HUGO fashion show live stream earlier? Berlin’s biggest fashion show this week packed quite a star-studded punch. The pouring rain didn’t stop the fash pack and celebrities from watching Eyan Allen and Bart de Backer’s latest offering for HUGO. Julianne Moore, Georgia May Jagger, Sky Ferreira, Pixie Geldof and Jared Leto (among many others) went to the show and sat across my seat on the front row. All eyes were on Jared who wore a cute trench. I thought it was funny that style watchers all over (especially on Twitter) were curious on what Jared will put on next. I thought he looked great in his outfit. His total look was appropriate in rainy Berlin.

Speaking of looks, allow me to share to you some of my favourites from the show.
