SCRATCH MASSIVE: NUIT DE MES RÊVES

[HearDis! 114]

Scratch Massive is a Parisian DJ duo that’s been releasing records since 1999. While the name may evoke a turntablist crew specializing in behind-the-back tricks, this Scratch Massive is much more into nuance than show. Their new album, Nuit De Rêve, explores dark territory, and this song, which is close to being the title track save one word – “Nuit De Mes Rêves” – is like the soundtrack to a horror film.

DEEP88 SING A SONG FOR SUMMER

[HearDis! 111]

Yes, a summer song is great in the months of August and July, but when we really want to feel sunshine in our music is December. Thankfully Deep88 have answered the call to make a cold weather summer song with “Summer Just Can’t Wave Goodbye.” Complete with summer-themed lyrics and even a sample from Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness,” it’ll make you want to put on your sunglasses and sit in front of the biggest window you can find.

HUGO TRACKS PODCAST NOVEMBER

[HearDis! 112]

Once again, it’s time to take a look into the not-so-distant past with the HUGO Tracks podcast. Every month, we round up all the tracks we’ve been listening to in HUGO World, package them into a tightly mixed playlist and disseminate them to you. This edition is especially excellent (if we do say so ourselves). New favorites Dauwd and Roses Kings Castles get stirred up with old favorites like Noah And The Whale and Zimmer to create a perfect soundtrack for the upcoming weeks. You can stream it right here on the HUGO Blog, or you can download it and take it to the holiday party. Enjoy!

BE LOVED: HEADMAN

[HearDis! 110]

Headman is one of our favorites here in HUGO World. Since his earliest releases on Relish, we’ve been avid listeners. His new track, “Be Loved,” expertly uses drum machines and synths to create a moody, get-your-head-down-and-dance atmosphere, and the video for the song lays out pretty clearly what he’s hoping will happen when you put it on: dancing.

DAUWD WANTS TO KNOW WHAT’S THERE

[HearDis! 109]

Dauwd is part of a new school of producers making brilliantly crafted, dubstep-inspired bass music. “What’s There” has all the ingredients we love – melodic, moving bass lines, airy hi-hats and snares, and spacey ambience. Most of all, though, what it’s got is a groove. We can’t stop bobbing our heads to this one.
