ROBOT KOCH HEALS

[HearDis! 108]

It’s the bass that gets us on this new track from Robot Koch. The haunted vocals of John LaMonica are, beautiful, yes, and the ambient plips and plops are perfectly placed, but the low end is mesmerizing. Make sure when you download and listen, you plug in your best set of headphones.

Yukimi Nagano stands out from the crowd in this HUGO silk print dress. Its clean cut and Asia-inspired floral print turn this dress into a little piece of modern art and black and red are great colors for the festive season.

KELLEY POLAR RETURNS WITH JEREMY GREENSPAN OF JUNIOR BOYS

[HearDis! 106]

We’ve been fans of Kelley Polar since his earliest releases on Morgan Geist’s Environ label. But his new album (the first thing we’ve heard from him since 2008) is the best thing he’s ever done. This song, “I’m Not What You Want”, is a collaboration with Junior Boys’ Jeremy Greenspan. Fantastic.

SUMMER CAMP IS DONE FOREVER

[HearDis! 105]

Summer Camp is a British duo with a clear affinity for American movies from the 80s. The eponymous track from their new album, Welcome To Condale, even goes so far as to sample a character from a John Hughes movie. The music would also slot in perfectly to any 80s film. It’s perfect synth-pop.

POLOGRAPHIA: RIGHTEOUS HIT

[HearDis! 104]

Polographia is a group from Sydney, Australia, but beyond that we can’t find much biographical information about them. What’s really important, though, is not how many people are in the band – or if they’d even describe themselves as a band at all – but how good the music is. And it is VERY good. A healthy dose of indie hip-hop stylings come together with that whole chillwave thing to create a sound that can simultaneously make you bob your head and completely space out. Luckily we were able to work out a free download of their new track, “Righteous Hit.” Jump on it fast.

Noah And The Whale are an English neo-folk band whose name is inspired by the film The Squid and the Whale. Yuksek is a French electronic music producer from the Kitsune crew. Together, they’ve made an anthem for the end of the night. Yuksek’s version of “Life Is Life” is a 100% feel good track.

BULLMEISTER REWORKS DATA MC

[HearDis! 102]

Data MC is a Berlin-based group making a blend of contemporary hip-hop and dance music. We’ve featured them here on HUGO Tracks a couple times before. This remix by Bullmeister, though, has turned the Data MC sound on its head. The original track is a clomping, low-tempo story about a girl. Bullmeister has stripped out the vocals and frothed it into a chugging deep house track. Completely different but still wonderful.
