OPERA PASSION

I love the colour red. It signifies true passion and it’s everywhere in the collections these days. And oh… it also happens to be HUGO’s signature colour, of course! Increasingly, I see fashion trends moving into the interiors sphere, and that is exactly what has happened at the 136-year-old Opera de Paris Garnier in the city of lights. The great architect Odile Decq has transformed part of the old theatre into a huge futuristic-inspired restaurant with organic shapes, lots of glass and more red than I’ve seen in one place for a long time. Is this an ode to HUGO-ism…? I don’t really have a passion for opera, but I have a passion for red and surely you don’t have to be an opera lover to go to this amazing restaurant.

KNOCK ON WOOD

A top modern, gigantic wooden-sculpture, in perfect-Pocahontas-ish harmony with the Dark-Age allies of Seville! Does that sound strange? Well, it sounds almost as deluded as the supposed fact that the discoverer-I-found-India-NOT-man, Columbus is buried in the Seville city Cathedral. But brace yourselves – the aforementioned sculpture does actually exist. As an organic-wooden-snake-on-speed (just because snake-print is so it this season), the sculpture dart its way in between the ancient houses and creates a wondrous, futuristic atmosphere. I was like – “OMG!” at my first encounter. The city of Seville can now proclaim ownership of the most gigantic wooden-sculpture – the Metropol Parasol.

The sculpture is designed by Jürgen Mayer H, who spent 6 years of his life creating this futuristic piece of art. This year, the visitors of the sunny-ancient-city can enjoy the futuristic wooden-sculpture for the first time. Hence, the Metropol Parasol is yet another reason to visit Seville.

APPALOOSA’S PATCHWORK

[HearDis! 119]

Appaloosa is a kind of horse. But it is also the name of a French electronic duo fronted by the beautiful and mysterious Anne-Laure Keib (who happens to be old friends with Chan Marshall aka Cat Power). The band (not the horse) has a new EP out on the Discotexas label. We like it a lot!

HOME FROM HOME – THE AVANTGARDE VERSION

I belong to a certain breed of the Homo sapiens – the ‘I-just-want-to-hang-in-the-Maison-Martin-Margiela-store-and-kick-back-in-the-sofa-and-enjoy-myself’! (We’re a rare breed –but I know you are out there!) So when I heard I could now finally unfold my most-inner instincts (… without having shop employees shove me away) – I was short of breath. The dream about living in an avant-garde, color-abandoned-European-intellectual(-ish)-luxury hotel in the oldie-end of Champs Elysee in Paris is now a reality. The creature of mystery (… you know of whom I speak) has created magic in terms of hotel interior décor. Having designed luxury suites and future-fantastic common rooms at La Maison hotel in Paris. The success and admiration of La Maison decoration has said rumors on fire that the Margiela Empire will soon commence designing home-décor (… and thank God for that!) However, until that given day shows its (presumably) beautiful face – we have to book time at La Maison, Paris for a fan-furniture-istic Margiela experience.

KORALLREVEN IS AS YOUNG AS YESTERDAY

[HearDis! 128]

Korallreven was formed because of a dream on the island of Samoa (the best kind of dream). Marcus Joons, one half of the group, was “chillin’ under a coconut tree, got a feeling of how he wanted [to make music that's] Spiritual like the local Samoan Catholic church choirs, hypnotic like the breathtaking tropical nature and” evocative of “a feeling of that you finally had reached ‘the other side’.” Well, he did it. And “As Young As Yesterday” is about the best evidence we can offer. Be quick and take a free download as long as it lasts!
