DJ HARVEY RETURNS WITH LOCUSSOLUS

[HearDis! 220]

Locussolus is a project consisting of my long time hero, Harvey, along with Sam Fox and Tara Selleck, ably assisted by Josh Marcy. They record their music in Venice Beach – and you can sense the Californian sun in the vibe somehow. Their first album was acclaimed and lauded as well as being included in many of 2011′s ‘Best Of’ lists. Now they are back to give you more with a great twelve-inch, two-track single. ‘Berghain’ is an anthem track to play out as a DJ – named after the legendary Berlin nightclub – and ‘Telephone’  is more of a disco boogie FM radio-hit-style track, the other side of Harvey that I really enjoy as well. If you ever have the chance to catch Harvey playing as a DJ, you are in for a treat. He is known across the globe for selecting and blending eclectic music in a way like no one else.

BLUE MONDAY VIBES FROM HOT CHIP

[HearDis! 217]

Back in Copenhagen after a crazy weekend it’s time for something laid back. Hot Chip just released their anticipated 5th album In Our Heads and I immediately fell in love with this moody track “Look At Where You Are”. It’s not their typical Hot Chip party tune, but a downtempo and blue pop song with a great, simple hook…. You can slow dance the night away to this one…

Love

THE TAMBIEN PROJECT

[HearDis! 216]

It’s not often that I totally freak out over a new twelve-inch, but lo and behold, look what came in the mail for me today! This is a special edition pressing of Tambien‘s EP including the track “Indignados,” limited to only 300 copies, and one of them has my name on it! (Literally! Check the photo!) But even better is that the music is just phenomenal!!! All three tracks are right up my alley with their great and quirky groovy-ness, and they will sit perfectly in my DJ sets. I simply can’t wait to play it out this weekend, when I’ll be in Bucharest and Istanbul!

By the way, I’ve been posting photos on HUGO BOSS’s Instagram channel with the tag, #byKasper. If you’re interested, check here!

MMMMM… BLOOD ORANGE

[HearDis! 214]

Brooklyn-based producer and songwriter Devonté Hynes aka Blood Orange is quite brilliant if you ask me. His music has strong references to the 80s, in particular, Prince –  which is fine in my book! I first fell in love with his song “Suthpin Boulevard” and then discovered the album Coastal Grooves. The video for the single, “Champagne Coast,” is beautiful and lo-fi, and the song is a great summer soundtrack… mellow melancholia with a little spike of anthemic flavor. And here’s a tip: Check out Devonté’s blog here; he is quite stylish, too!

GOODIEBAG #2: FREE DOWNLOAD OF MARK E VS. REPTILE YOUTH

[HearDis! 208]

Danish post punk duo, Reptile Youth, is the riot, the dream – what the 21st century revolutionaries have been waiting for. Yes, my expectations for this band are sky high! Their debut full length, produced by David M. Allen (The Cure, Sisters Of Mercy) and Marc Ralph (Hot Chip) is set for a release this September, but here is the second single, “Black Swan Born White,” remixed by Mark E. Mark E is a UK based electronic producer that seems to outdo himself on every release. This is a great take on the original, and I will surely be playing this version out all summer. Hurry up! There’s a free download for the first 100 lucky ones!

Bless,
Kasper

KENTON SLASH DEMON: MATTER

Kenton Slash Demon is one of the most promising new talents out of Denmark. The DJ/production duo (also part of the band When Saints Go Machine) have gained great attention, without releasing a lot of material. Their sound is both organic and futuristic, and their obvious skills take their productions further than the typical frame and dramaturgy of a club track. While we wait for their debut album, here is the track, “Matter,” off the second EP from their The Schwarzschild Solution trilogy, which is a couple of years old but still deserves some attention. Malthe Fischer from Danish psych pop outfit “Oh No Ono” features with his mystic vocals and delivers a final signature to this great track. Enjoy!

PIONAL VS. THE RAPTURE

[HearDis! 204]

Sonar Festival is always in the middle of June. It’s one of the best festivals in the world, and even though I’m not attending this year, I thought it would make sense to present you with a little something from Spain. New York dance rockers, The Rapture, have been one of my favorite bands since James Murphy produced their album, Echoes, and Pional is one of my new favorite rising Spanish producers; so putting the two of them together was destined to turn out great. The fact that Pional has remixed my favorite track from the latest Rapture album just makes it even more obvious to post here on the HUGO Blog.

Have a great day everyone!
Cheers
