WHEN HOME VIDEO WAS YOUNG

Home Video, a couple of gents who originally hail from New Orleans but now reside in Brooklyn, have been making music together since 2004, when they released a couple of EPs on Warp. Since then, they’ve been remixed by DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy, and they’ve shared the stage with everyone from Flying Lotus to Blonde Redhead to Justice. The next feather in their cap is “When I Was Young,” a song that seems to be a nod to Eric Burdon.

FREE DOWNLOAD OF CREEP

Creep, the dark electronic duo that’s one of our favorite groups in Brooklyn, has got a new single out, and, not surprisingly, we love it. It’s called “Animals,” and it features the vocals of Holly Miranda. If you like it, too, you can take it with you. Just click the download link above…

POLICA LAYS THEIR CARDS OUT

Polica is a band from the midwestern United States. Amazingly for a group that’s only been in existence since last June, they’re already selling out the legendary First Avenue club (where Prince regularly performed, both in real life and on screen), and they’ve got a full-length album ready to release next month. This track, “Lay Your Cards Out,” is a sneak peek from the album, and we’ve got the privilege of offering it up to you as a free download.

For now, though, we’re lapping up the single from the album, “Work”, an ode to getting out there and getting the job done. You better work.

YOU OWE US

Metrika and Bastard Love’s “You Owe Me” may hit the streets next Monday, but we’ve got a sneak peek for you today. The track – a broody, electro-tinged slow-burner – is part of a shared EP, showcasing M&BL alongside four other artists on the great Toronto-based label, My Favorite Robot Records. “You Owe Me” is our favorite of the bunch, but check out the clips from the whole release here. You won’t be disappointed.

TOBAGO TO NEW YORK: JONAS RATHSMAN

For today’s stream, we’ve got some proper old-school, early-90s-tinged house music courtesy of Jonas Rathsman. All the essential elements are in place – simple organ melody a la Crystal Waters and hand percussion a la Masters at Work. Jonas Rathsman may be from Sweden, his label may be called French Express, and the track may be called “Tobago”, but this track is all New York.
