OSAKA OPENING

HUGO has arrived in Japan! What to expect from a HUGO Store opening event? Apparently a lot. The official opening of HUGO Store Herbis Osaka on April 3rd 2012 was a great night and also a great time to catch up with people. In addition to the celebrities, Claus-Dietrich Lahrs, CEO of HUGO BOSS AG, came to celebrate the opening. After strolling through the shop with impressive sights, I enjoyed the delicious food and drinks. After a long day with many new impressions, you should be sure to end your day in a great party, right? That’s what I did! And for all of you who haven’t been there yet – I strongly suggest a visit soon!

DANSK DOES HUGO

Look what happens when I take Swedish top photographer Magnus Reed backstage while I do the styling at the HUGO Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Show staged in Berlin last July… He starts shooting the gorgeous cast of international models ready to go on stage and makes the main pieces from the collection look like little pieces of art. I was so thrilled with these simple and strong black/white photos – especially the one of Chinese topmodel duo Liu Wen and Fei Fei Sun in the futuristically printed outfits – that I decided to run a few of the pictures as a little backstage fashion story in my magazine DANSK. And I have had great feedback. Check it out.

EASY, LIGHT, FRESH

Easy on the eye and easy on the body – that’s what I like most this summer! There’s nothing too complicated: The tailoring is relaxed. There is a touch of A-line in the shapes of dresses and blouses are ultra-light and fluid. If the tailor says relax – think easy and enjoy the beautiful styles from HUGO Womenswear Summer 2012 collection - now available in stores and online.

DAVID SHAW: A MANCUNIAN IN PARIS

[HearDis! 172]

David Shaw is a Mancunian living in Paris. You can almost hear the din of those two very different cities in his music. There’s a clear dark, industrial Manchester sound in “The Jackal,” the song we’re streaming here, but there’s also a lushness and refined nonchalance that is very Paris. “The Jackal” is from the second EP, released on Her Majesty’s Ship, leading up to a full-length, which we’ve been promised is on the way. We await with bated breath.

SASCHA FUNKE AND JULIENNE DESSAGNE ARE SASCHIENNE

[HearDis! 171]

Saschienne is a new project between Sascha Funke and his wife, Julienne Dessagne. While there are countless one-off projects that bubble up in the dance music world, this, they are declaring, is a “partnership meant to stay”. We couldn’t be happier about that. There’s real depth in sound and sentiment in their music, as you can easily tell from this song, “Knopfauge”, from their debut album, which came out at the end of last month on Kompakt. We’ve got it here for download for a limited time. Enjoy!

LAYER STYLE

Who said layers were just for winter? Spring’s breezes and summer’s sun is bringing fresh approaches to lines, layering and color combinations. As we enter summer 2012, a new silhouette is discovered that permits you to layer clothes during the summer months. We’re seeing lighter fabrics and fresher palettes come around with an obvious touch of summer sensuality. HUGO also plays with layers: they are extended and cropped, combined and overlapping.

SLOK GETS BACK TO HIS ROOTS

[HearDis! 170]

Slok is an Italian producer who finds himself more at home in the kitchen than in the studio. The self-proclaimed chef, though, still knows his music. In “Roots,” the lead single from a new EP he’s released on One Records, he’s combined classic Chicago house sounds with contemporary feeling synth bass, a tasty dish that has quickly seduced the palates of both label managers, Subb-An & Adam Shelton.

BLOCK PARTY: IT’S COLOR BLOCKING AGAIN!

Color blocking is on! And it just makes me happy. It’s a refreshing change from the pretty dark dominant black, grey and brown from Fall/Winter. Bold, solid-color pieces like jackets with low, easy pockets and reshaped pants work together to create a color explosion. For your inspiration check out some great styles from the HUGO Menswear Summer 2012 collection.

GET GET PEOPLE

[HearDis! 169]

Get People are a London-based band making tropically tinged, electronic rock. It sounds a little like The Knife, a little like Caribou, a little like Metronomy and a lot like a dream. We’re streaming the track, “Macaw,” above. Enjoy.

GET READY FOR THE SUMMER SPIRIT

My favourite part of spring is enjoying the sun peeking through the clouds. Top model Kasia Struss shows us how to do it in her style. She gets into the summer spirit wearing oversized sunglasses with her beautiful dress from the HUGO Summer 2012 collection. Enjoy the sun!
