The HUGO BOSS PRIZEpresents up and coming artists

Installations, paintings and performances: The HUGO BOSS PRIZE in cooperation with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum New York presents exciting new developments in the contemporary art scene with an impressive portfolio of outstanding talents in various art genres. Every two years an artist is awarded the HUGO BOSS PRIZE, and the latest recipient is one to watch: Danh Vo - the HUGO BOSS PRIZE winner 2012.

The inspiring work of the Vietnamese, Berlin-based artist includes objects, installations, photographs and works on paper. His deliberately recurring themes include in particular his own experiences - stories with autobiographical references to his family, who fled during the Vietnam War and had to build a new life in a foreign country. Having been born in 1975, he didn’t experience this upheaval himself, yet it has remained a central part of his own identity, and is often and variously returned to as the central motif of his artistic approach. An impressive solo exhibition at New York's Guggenheim Museum this spring, gave an insight into his complex artistic work.

Also nominated (and just as worth seeing!) were American conceptual artist Trisha Donnelly (who is known for her short performances and makes use of various art forms, today), Monika Sosnowska from Poland (who uses recurring architectural forms in her sculptures and installations), British artist Tris Vonna-Michell (known for his spoken word performances and multimedia installations), Qiu Zhijie from China (who successfully translates traditional techniques into conceptual forms and visions in his multi-facetted work) and American Rashid Johnson (whose works are inspired by everything from personal memories through to pop culture).

For many years now HUGO BOSS has cultivated a close connection to the art world. The HUGO BOSS PRIZE, launched in 1996 with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, has become one of the most coveted awards for outstanding young artists.
