We’ve always loved the classic sounds of bossa nova, but, as you know, we’re suckers for new music, which is why we’re really into this new song from Sloane Alabaster. Masterfully sampling and contorting Getz and Gilberto’s rendition of “Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars” with Astrud Gilberto on vocals, the Tokyo-based producer has brought the timeless song straight into the future.
Mind Fair is a project by producers Dean Meredith and Ben Shenton, who’ve released music on the Uruguayan label, International Feel, and are set to release some more material on one of our favorite labels of the moment, Golf Channel. Before that happens, though, Mind Fair is debuting a side project called 21st Century Fox, a collaboration with vocalist Lauren Faulkner. We’ve got our favorite track from the new EP here (it’s called ‘Serious Love’) for free download. Don’t sleep. It’ll be gone before you know it.
The Echo Vamper is a British/Danish-DIY-Rock&Roll-Duo with a Cabaret Voltaire feel and they’re named after a German Harmonica. That itself is reason enough to feature them on our blog? Yeah, we thought so too! But: If you paid close attention to Kasper Bjørke’s post on the I Love You Magazine-Party in Berlin, you’re already familiar with this firecracker-combo. They are a real-life couple and whether it be on stage or on your portable media player, these two are so not beating around the bush! Here’s “Goodbye Blue Skies” from their conveniently titled EP “It’s The Echo Vamper”. You may wanna try to check these two out on their world tour throughout September!
We featured one of Rudi Zygadlo’s songs on the HUGO Blog in October last year. He’s continued to trudge through his creative process since then, and we’re really thankful for it. His new song, “Melpomene,” is stunning. Somehow he’s fused the sounds of a grand piano and tango accordion together with tender vocals and strained electronics to create a song that’s truly mesmerizing. And the video for the song… Wow.
Strip Steve is a twenty-four-year-old Californian who now lives in Berlin. He also happens to be a DJ and producer on the Boysnoize label. “Astral Projection” is the lead single from his new LP called Micro Mega, which you should get, because it’s really good. If you want to sample before you dive in, we’ve got “Astral Projection” here for free download for the first hundred lucky listeners.
Here’s something we wish we saw more of – a band joining forces with an electronic music producer. Tom Demac has been making music for labels like Hypercolour, Four Twenty, Murmur, Morris Audio and liebe*detail for the past few years, and Silverclub has been stirring up the Manchester rock scene for about the same amount of time. They’ve come together to create a new EP called Holiday’s Over for My Favorite Robot Records. We’ve got our favorite song from the EP, “Throat Trip,” here for free download for a limited time. Act fast!
Matthew Dear is a longtime HUGO Tracks favorite, so we were super excited to hear that he’s got a new album coming out on August 28. (It’s called Beams, and it’s being released by Ghostly International.) The lead single from the LP is called “Her Fantasy,” and it’s amazing. Leaning slightly toward the tropical sounds that seem to be omni-present in synthier electronic music today, it still maintains a distinct Matthew Dear sound – especially when his trademark raspy vocals come in.
Once again live from sunny Copenhagen, heeeeeere’s Kasper! Our dear friend Kasper Bjørke has been rather pampering us with his nordic generosity lately, in terms of frequently posting his favorite tracks du jour on our pretty blog. Avid followers will notice that it’s about time for our monthly podcast again and we figured, well, having a man of such great taste and sophistication at hand (who, to top it all off, hosts his own weekly radio show called 4/4 on National Danish Radio DR P6 Beat): Why shouldn’t two great things come together? So without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, please go right ahead and enjoy this month’s HUGO Tracks podcast curated, compiled and hosted by the one and only Kasper Bjørke, featuring handpicked releases by such amazing artists as The Rapture, Trentemøller, Chromatics, Hot Chip, Raptile Youth and many many more…You can download the podcast directly here and of course on iTunes. So don’t you dare touch that dial!
As you probably know already, our two HUGO Artists Nina Kraviz and Kasper Bjørke were in Berlin for Fashion Week to enjoy the HUGO Fashion Show. Being the busy bees they are – of course – they couldn’t stay inactive for too long and were kind enough to take us around the city and bring us to some of their favorite places in Germany’s vibrant capital! Since our beloved readers couldn’t be present physically, we’ll have some great footage headed your way in the days to come: Nina Kraviz and Kasper Bjørke will take you to exhibits, restaurants, partys, interviews, the HUGO Fashion Show and so on and so on… Check this little preview teaser and make sure to tune back in for their Berlin adventures!
