The legendary Rolex Fastnet Race in 2003 was the starting point of HUGO BOSS Sailing with the renowned skipper Alex Thomson and his team. Since 2004 HUGO BOSS has been the title sponsor of the racing team and with 9 years this partnership between Alex Thomson Racing and HUGO BOSS is one of the longest standing within sailing. Alex's dedication to excellence, optimum performance and gritty determination make him the perfect HUGO BOSS brand ambassador.
Currently two boats are sailing under the BOSS logo. The race yacht Alex Thomson is entering competitions with and the hospitality yacht, a brand ambassador visiting HUGO BOSS key markets around the world. Over the past years Alex Thomson and his team sailed to every continent and greeted HUGO BOSS guests in New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney, London, Cape Town, Taipei and many others.
2008 Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton joined the crew for the Round the Island Race. Afterwards Lewis said that this was "the coolest thing I think I've ever seen."(Video clip). In 2011, Alex competed in the Artemis Challenge, where he was joined onboard by actor Ewan McGregor (video Clip).
As part of its sponsorship activities HUGO BOSS also provides Alex Thomson Racing with functional sailing clothing. The especially developed clothing meets Thomson's and his team's special demands for offshore sailing, such as special materials resistible to saltwater, waterproof and cold weather conditions. Furthermore HUGO BOSS is providing the entire team kit, including sports and evening wear.
With the support of HUGO BOSS, Alex pushes the boundaries of sailing each and every day. With the "Keel Walk" Alex once again proved extraordinary sailing skills. The Keel Walk became a famous video clip on You Tube and reached within a month over one Million viewers. (video clip)
Just in time for the "Round the World Race", the Vendée Globe, the HUGO BOSS Yacht was presented in a brand new design, a fresh look that underlines the high performance of the boat (video clip).
