HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM HUGO TRACKS

[HearDis! 283]

Everyone,

I hope you had a great time during the holidays and are now looking just as forward to this new year as I do. As every year, I will make sure to provide you guys with the hottest tracks of the moment and of course will have a lot of interesting stuff and goodies in store for you.

We’re starting the new year with a bang! Canadian powerhouse Tiga, who clearly does not need an introduction in the realms of electronic music fans, releases a brand new mix CD entitled Tiga Non Stop, which features a single that is co-produced by Matthew Dear. It’s everything that you would expect it to be.

Have a happy and healthy year, guys!

SCANDINAVIANS DO IT BETTER

[HearDis! 288]

Quite the jumbo merger coming your way today: Our Danish Mansister from another mister and HUGO Artist Kasper Bjørke gives Finnish house legend Jori Hulkkonen one of his peerless remix treatments and makes it hard for us to sit still. This puppy is taken from the upcoming selection of remixes of Hulkonnen’s critically acclaimed last LP Negative Time on My Favorite Robot Records and it’s just the energetic firecracker you’d expect it to be! Both these guys can do no wrong, so without further ado, stream the “Vile Talk” Remix right here to get with the program!

PHASE SHIFT

[HearDis! 287]

Mostly at home in House Music the Stockholm based producer Tiger Stripes from time to time skillfully switches to Techno or, in case of “Out of Phase”, Nu Disco. But while the beat treads down the path Metro Area paved the vocals seem to reach out even further, to the golden age of Brit Pop as represented by Blur. An unexpected mix indeed.

KINKY PROJECTS

[HearDis! 286]

Project E are Nat Woodcock and friend of the house (music) Mark E. Together, the head of Merc Records and his associate, who has a background as a classically-trained pianist, pretty much do what they do best: producing high-class house records! Their “Kinks” EP is a superb triarchy of songs and packed with celestial arrangements. We’d like to present its title track to you, which features Greg Bird on vocals and is just pretty, pretty, pretty good! Hit “play” to stream – live the dream!

GEISHAS VS. ZOMBIES

[HearDis! 285]

Just as the “agalma” is a precious object hidden in a worthless box, so “objet petit a” is the object of desire which we seek in the Other (Lacan, Seminar VIII ). So, what is the precious object, and what the worthless box in the case of Harouki Zombi’s latest single “Objet Petit A”? Hard to tell, since the duo’s quirky avant-pop is only one part of a multimedia-experience of elaborated performances and colorful videos. Well, maybe that’s the worthless box: Trying to sum up what Harouki Zombi do with a simple genre definition, instead of just enjoying and downloading the music…

MATPAT HAS SOME NERVE

[HearDis! 284]

Everybody Rise is only Matpat’s second EP, but it already shows a fully formed artist who found his own sound. Or, better, found a way to emulate the well known sound of 90s House in a pre-apocalyptic 2012 style. And who would be better suited to help him than Ben Mono, another fan of classic 90s House? Nobody! So here it is: a stream of Matpat’s “Werk That Nerve” remixed by Ben Mono.

DO THE SUPERFICIAL ROBOT!

[HearDis! 282]

Düsseldorf’s own Lorenz Rhode has been releasing music on such illustrious imprints as Compost, Kitsuné and he is now signed to Berlin’s powerhouse Exploited Records. Cooking up an “alluring cocktail of ’80s-influenced electrohouse and all-out pop” with his various machines, this dude is definitely going places! Stream the provocative “Superficial Robots” (which features Coco Solid on vocals) right here to get with the program and to defy the weatherman!

FOLLOW THE STEP IN THE NAME OF LOVE

[HearDis! 280]

Rachel Row: one alliteration under a groove. Beautiful, blessed with an incredibly soothing voice and of Bulgarian descent. The alumni of Sofia’s National Academy of Music has caused quite a stir in the realms of musical connaisseurs. Especially since she decided to team up with KiNK, who has been a trusted deliverer of great house records that immediately hit the nerve in a club context, while never being to obvious. Together, these two highbrow musicians produce music that is plain and simply beautiful. So make sure to follow their step while you can!
