Oldies but Goldies Automobile Style Icons

Gleaming chrome, luxurious leather interiors and elegant, sporty shapes: old-timers and popular design classics from the drawing boards of leading car manufacturers are no longer purchased by enthusiastic car fanatics alone, but are today considered to be a stylish investment opportunity.

As a result, the futuristic and sporty one-off designs from Italian car manufacturer Bertone have dominated the car industry. Founded 100 years ago by Giovanni Bertone, son Giuseppe led his paternal inheritance to global success with a succession of extravagant models and small series. The design studio based in Turin shone with some very special style icons, including the 3 Series B.A.T., a car developed by Bertone designer Franco Scalione for Alfa Romeo and celebrated for its aerodynamically-perfect shape.

During the 1960s, the legendary dream-sprinter Lamborghini Miura or the Chevrolet Corvette Testudo were also quick to establish themselves as legendary one-offs. Today, the 78 cars of the Bertone Collection are part of the Italian national artistic heritage and are on display in the Caprie car museum. Those interested in true rarities and historical design gems shouldn’t miss annual event highlights such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England or the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California.
