A FREE DOWNLOAD OF GRANDTHEFT

[HearDis! 177]

We know what you’re thinking. Grand Theft Auto! Us, too. But this Grandtheft spells it differently and has a propensity not for carjacking but for jacking bass. “Let Me Out” is a cut-up banger of a tune, and while banger is not a word we’re typically given to using, it fits perfectly. Download now, or download never. The freebies will be gone before you know it.

THE MIND-EXPLODING COMBO OF KATHY DIAMOND, MAX SKIBA, ALEXIS TAYLOR AND JUSTUS KÖHNCKE

[HearDis! 176]

We can hardly contain ourselves over this combo. The KDMS – a duo formed by the amazing English vocalist Kathy Diamond and the über-talented Polish producer, Max Skiba – join forces with Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor for guest vocals and Justus Köhncke for remix duties. Why bother even explaining what it sounds like? Of course it’s good… Just listen!

AJELLO DREAMS OF PARADISE

[HearDis! 175]

Ajello are a duo of versatile Italian producers, who make old-school electro tracks as easily as they make classic Italo disco. In “Dream of Paradise” they show their skills in yet another genre: acid house. The track begins with a chugging, squelchy bassline that slowly opens into full-on vocal pop. It’s hard to put our finger exactly on what Ajello are up to, but whatever it is, we like it.

SUPERMEN LOVERS GO TO JUPITER

[HearDis! 174]

Jupiter is a French-English duo based in Paris. They met one night in London while Junior’s “Mama Used To Say” was playing on a nearly empty dancefloor. The rest is history. Their new song, “One O Six,” gets the remix treatment here from another act that owes their inception to very funky artist – Supermen Lover. If you haven’t heard Johnny Guitar Watson’s track that bears nearly the same name, you must listen now.

BAD PASSION GET RESULTS

[HearDis! 173]

Bad Passion is from Toronto, where they are in a gang that rides bicycles, sips tea and tags public property with chalk. (At least according to their video you can see below.) “Get Results” is a super slow, minimal r&b jam with nearly whispered speak-sing lyrics and instrumentation plucked out on a simple keyboard. In spite of its simplicity, it’s totally fun and completely catchy. These guys are someone you should keep your eyes on.

DAVID SHAW: A MANCUNIAN IN PARIS

[HearDis! 172]

David Shaw is a Mancunian living in Paris. You can almost hear the din of those two very different cities in his music. There’s a clear dark, industrial Manchester sound in “The Jackal,” the song we’re streaming here, but there’s also a lushness and refined nonchalance that is very Paris. “The Jackal” is from the second EP, released on Her Majesty’s Ship, leading up to a full-length, which we’ve been promised is on the way. We await with bated breath.

SASCHA FUNKE AND JULIENNE DESSAGNE ARE SASCHIENNE

[HearDis! 171]

Saschienne is a new project between Sascha Funke and his wife, Julienne Dessagne. While there are countless one-off projects that bubble up in the dance music world, this, they are declaring, is a “partnership meant to stay”. We couldn’t be happier about that. There’s real depth in sound and sentiment in their music, as you can easily tell from this song, “Knopfauge”, from their debut album, which came out at the end of last month on Kompakt. We’ve got it here for download for a limited time. Enjoy!

SLOK GETS BACK TO HIS ROOTS

[HearDis! 170]

Slok is an Italian producer who finds himself more at home in the kitchen than in the studio. The self-proclaimed chef, though, still knows his music. In “Roots,” the lead single from a new EP he’s released on One Records, he’s combined classic Chicago house sounds with contemporary feeling synth bass, a tasty dish that has quickly seduced the palates of both label managers, Subb-An & Adam Shelton.

GET GET PEOPLE

[HearDis! 169]

Get People are a London-based band making tropically tinged, electronic rock. It sounds a little like The Knife, a little like Caribou, a little like Metronomy and a lot like a dream. We’re streaming the track, “Macaw,” above. Enjoy.

JOHN TALABOT REMIXES THE GOLDEN FILTER… AND KILLS IT

[HearDis! 168]

This one’s a real slow burner. John Talabot – the mysterious Spanish producer that sometimes wraps his head in tinfoil to hide his identity – has added all kinds of restrained bounce to The Golden Filter‘s “Kill Me” for this remix. If you’re into it, we highly recommend you go out and check Talabot’s full-length ƒin and the Golden Filter album from which the original track comes, Syndromes.
