BEN WESTBEECH GETS INFLECTIOUS

[HearDis! 65]

Ben Westbeech is a musician who has collaborated with a number of producers including Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jazzanova, Georg Levin and Henrik Schwarz. That roster would make it seem as though his music was definitively slanted toward dance music. “Inflections”, one of the new songs off of his Strictly Rhythm-released album, is hardly a dancefloor number, though. Yes, eventually a four-to-the-floor kick drum drops into the song, but otherwise, it’s more of a dark folk ballad. No matter what it is, we like it… and we hope you do, too. The download is here for the taking.

HUGO SUPER BLACK SUIT FREE DOWNLOAD

[HearDis! 60]

Terminal Twilight is a duo from Los Angeles making beat driven, dark synth pop. We recently heard their song, “Black and Blue,” and we decided it had to go into a new video that we’ve made.

Their track gets us in the same way The Knife does, with stabbing keys, snapping drum tracks and strange vocals. And guess what, you can take it home with you… for free. Download link is above.

THE NEW DIVISION: OPIUM

[HearDis! 62]

The New Divison is a band from California making music that is very much inspired by, you guessed it, New Order and Joy Division. “Opium”, also not surprisingly, is a mega-dreamy, drippy-synthed wash out of a song. We feel like we’re floating.

DANNY DAZE (FEAT. LOUISAHHH!!!): YOUR EVERYTHING

[HearDis! 63]

Danny Daze is a Cuban-American from Miami. His new track, “Your Everything,” gives slight hints of his heritage, with some muted horn hits poking their heads out between what is otherwise a song that feels very inspired by early electro and Matthew Dear.
Here is the official video for this track:

RÜFÜS: WE LEFT (SYMBOLONE REMIX)

No, it’s not Chaka Khan’s old band, Rufus; it’s an Australian trio that adds two umlauts to those U’s to make Rüfüs. How do you pronounce it? We have no idea, but the vocals are velvety, and in this remix by SymbolOne, the beats and strings are strong.

Remember Cornershop? Yes, that one. Brimful of Asha… (Forty-five!) Well, they’re still making music. In fact, they have been for almost twenty years, constantly evolving their quirky, disco-inspired musical template to stay in step with the times. Their newest song is super catchy, and the stop-motion animation video for it is even more addictive. Have a look; have a listen; and, hey, why not take a free download?

CSS (FEAT. BOBBY GILLESPIE): HITS ME LIKE A ROCK

It’s been over three years since we last heard from Brazilian dance-rock group CSS, but at long last, they’ve got a new album on the way. This is one of the songs from the upcoming album, “Hits Me Like A Rock,” featuring a cameo from none other than Bobby Gillespie, the singer of the brilliant Glaswegian band, Primal Scream.

DON’T SHOOT! IT’S RIMER LONDON

Rimer London is our favorite new Dutch music maker. The aesthetic fits in perfectly with ours – classy, understated and modern (if we do say so ourselves). This song in particular, “Put Your Gun Away”, has had us clapping along at the HUGO HQ all week.
