BRUT – FRANCO-GERMAN VESPERS IN THE HEART OF BERLIN

Here we go with the presentation of the last HUGO Hot Location. You can still unlock the special deals at the HUGO Hot Locations on foursquare until Saturday night (January 28, 2012). Make sure you do – there are some great offers waiting for you! And now, let me introduce BRUT:

The idea for a “vespers” bar – “vespers” meaning a regional between-meal snack platter – had been simmering on the back burner for a long time in the minds of Hessian-born Hanno Bäucker (owner of the design agency vektorfarm and the Mazooka T-shirt label, and co-founder of Best Shop), Frederike Ruhl (former Motor FM moderator) and the French architect Maud Cassagne (owner of the former systM gallery & bar). “We missed having a place in the Mitte district that was simple and unpretentious. A nice bar where you could meet with friends, have an aperitif, start the evening with a cocktail, or savor a fine wine. A kind of base for us, a place we felt at home. That’s why we also thought of serving traditional vespers platters. After all, in both Germany and France, regional ‘vespers’ are a familiar tradition, a true classic.”

Personal backgrounds play into the palette of drinks as well. Whether it’s the sparkling Riesling from the Palatinate region or a Côtes du Rhône Chateau Gigognan: every choice of wine is special. Most are made by small, select vintners along the Franco-German border.

Hessian hospitality, French savoir-vivre, a personal touch and an unassuming air make Brut a true gem in Berlin’s new nightlife district.

CLASSIC GERMAN CUISINE AT “DAS LOKAL”

“Das Lokal“ (roughly: the restaurant) is a charming newcomer to the food scene on Linienstrasse in the Mitte district. The lunch menu is strictly single-digit (7-8 euros), while evening meals reflect the best of classic German cuisine, cooked to perfection and partaken in a cozy atmosphere (main courses: 12-19 euros). With its bright white interior, rustic oak tables and a pleasant scent of fresh flowers in the air, it still has the welcoming feel of its predecessor.

„Das Lokal“ offers delicious German food in a cozy atmosphere. Check in with HUGO BOSS on foursquare to get the dessert of the day (for 6 €) & an exclusive HUGO bracelet for free!

ALL THAT GLITTERS – SNEAK A PEEK BACKSTAGE!

Before a fashion show, the backstage area is abuzz with hair and make-up artists, models, designers, photographers and crew members. The tension is rising and I always admire how the models have learned to block out the noise around them. They’re sitting with their iPads listening to music or skyping with their friends and family. Another thing I love about the backstage area is watching the make-up artists work on the show look. This time, the show look for the girls was all about silver and gold with hair pieces and glitter eyeshadow. Very glamorous and the perfect fit for the minimalist HUGO Fall/Winter 2012 Collection.

BRAVO BAR – A NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

Berlin is changing at lightning speed. Every week there’s a new bar, a new restaurant, a new shop, a new place to go. Not all have what it takes to become hip destinations, nor have they all been designed with the devotion that’s obviously gone into the recently opened Bravo Bar. Six friends from the former Rodeo Club teamed up to create a location in which they can feel comfortable together with their guests. Unassuming on the outside, the bar is easy to miss. The building on Torstrasse stood empty for years, despite various attempts to install a bar here, just a minute’s walk from King Size. All efforts failed – until Bravo Bar came to town. Now this is where the city’s artists, photographers, actors and creatives gather in an atmosphere approaching intimacy. And it’s where this crowd will stay on and party with growing abandon, deep into the morning hours. Talk about potential: Bravo Bar simply has everything that’s needed to make it a true classic.

Check in at Bravo Bar on foursquare and we are offering you a drink for 5 € and a fashionable HUGO bracelet for FREE!

OUKAN 71 – JAPANESE AVANT-GARDE IN BERLIN-MITTE

Opened this past fall, Oukan71 has many faces, but its dominant persona is Japanese. Originally an outgrowth of a short-term charity project conceived with Japanese designers, it is now a permanent location offering a store, restaurant and café – defining itself as “a concept store for the Japanese and international avant-garde.”

The venue extends over two levels behind the most striking façade in the vicinity, namely Kronenstrasse 71 – literally “Crown Street,” which also gave its name to the location: “oukan” is Japanese for “crown.” The first step inside jumpstarts the experience: the awesome cylindrical glass door whooshes wide automatically, providing access to the upper floor through an open stairwell. The first level showcases unisex looks from selected designers. A sweeping circular staircase leads up to the second floor, which houses furniture and design items along with womenswear – and the restaurant/café.

Here Japanese cooks prepare fresh delicacies behind the oval bar. The homemade pastries are to die for – try the macaroons created by a former Tim Raue patissier! They’re a must-have accompanied by the freshly prepared matcha latte (green tea) or as the crowning glory following up a light lunch. Choose from a range of Japanese specialties including onigiris (a type of rice sandwich), ochazuke (a tea-based rice soup), red beet carpaccio and much more. All prepared fresh using organically grown ingredients and choreographed with a special eye for detail.

Check in with us on foursquare to get macaroons for 2,50 € or a Matcha Latte for 3,20 € for FREE!

SPOTLIGHT ON THE RED CARPET AND THE FRONT ROW!

The front row at the HUGO Fashion Show Fall/Winter 2012 was packed with celebrities. From actors to it-girls, everyone flew in to Berlin for this highlight. Georgia May Jagger, Jared Leto, Julianne Moore and Sky Ferreira were all dressed up in HUGO for the occasion and demonstrated that the HUGO collection is sexy (see Georgia’s dress), classy (see Julianne’s outfit), outstanding (see blogger Bryanboy’s colorful look) and cool (see Sky and Jared’s looks). TRANSIT RESTAURANT – TAPAS GO ASIAN

Although still a relative newcomer to the scene, Transit is already a fixture in central Berlin: a hot spot for locals and out-of-towners alike, offering reasonable prices in a perfect setting between Hackischer Markt and Rosenthaler Platz, not far from the HUGO Store. A fashion-savvy crowd packs the place every evening, drawn by the very yummy food and cool concept. Just think: an Asian take on tapas. The best way to feast is the traditional mix & match common in southeastern Asia: order lots of small dishes for 3 euros each and then share. Open 365 days a year, Transit is THE place for hip urbanites to meet in Mitte. The downside to all this popularity: tables are hard to come by, especially during Fashion Week, so make sure you call ahead and reserve!

Check in with us on foursquare to get appetizers for 3 € & an exclusive HUGO bracelet for FREE!
