THE PURPLE CATACOMB

[HearDis! 255]

Somewhere below the wastelands of Arizona a group of musicians dug a tremendous Labyrinth, exceeding in scale even the one Daedalus built to trap the Minotaur. Its floors are made of massive kick drums, its walls of apocalyptic synth clusters and its ceiling of reverberating claps and vocals. They call it the “Purple Catacomb” and your feeling there is captured in this homonymous track.

NIGHTMARE IN A DAMAGED SYNTH

[HearDis! 254]

After two tender and minimalist pop tunes it’s time for something with a darker edge. And exactly this is what Emeron & Fox can deliver with their appropriately titled, new track “Nightmares”, out now on Silhouette Music. You shouldn’t miss the remix by L’Equipe du Son with its clever composition of italo-disco and new-wave elements. So hit play and get your free download of this disco-goodnes!

THE OTHER UNDERWORLD

[HearDis! 253]

The latest single by London’s Duologue is a hauntingly beautiful affair. Tender vocals are joined by impeccable string arrangements and on top of it all unfolds a crisp and complex beat. What more do you want from a pop song?

LET US TAKE YOU TO THE DANCETERIA

[HearDis! 250]

“Disco never died, it just went underground, had a baby, and named it house.” Someone who’d start their bio with a statement like that can hardly be a bad person, can they? And they’re definitely in good company here at HUGO Tracks. Italian DJ and Producer Scuola Furano from Gorizia interprets the roots of dancemusic in his own digitally coated way and the results are usually pretty uplifting and danceable. Check out “Danceteria” which features a great vocal performance by Fiorious right here and get into the groove!

FRENCH DELICACIES

[HearDis! 248]

Fun fact: Spitzer are brothers Matthieu and Damien from Lyon, who named their band after Al Pacino’s favorite cocktail in ‘Donnie Brasco’ (The Spritzer). They’ve just released their solid debut LP The Call on France’s much acclaimed InFiné imprint and as an antepast we’ve picked the savory “Too Hard To Breathe” featuring Kid A. Though it has its source in the french cuisine, it possesses a slight nordic touch and sounds a bit like Trentemøller having Björk over for dinner…. Delish!

SPARKLES OF JOY

[HearDis! 247]

Stylish and sexy are two attributes that come to mind while listening to Axel Boman’s Remix on the “First Sparkle” EP of Cécile & Refleksie. That’s hardly surprising, since we’re dealing with two attractive Milanese boys flanked by a pretty bloke from Stockholm. Together, they’ve cooked up quite a jam, which on the one hand is rather easy to decipher for people on the dancefloor, yet it impresses with it’s subtly complex production. Stream the track here and tell all your friends about it!

RECORD SHOPPING IN LONDON

[YouTube 42SFCaxtL6M]

Hey Guys,

as a longtime record collector, I used to plan some of the city travels I did in the past based on the quality of the local record stores. This means a lot of nice memories still pop up whenever I see the cover of certain records. Plus, the guys on the counter usually can not only be of assistance when it comes to finding great music, but they’re usually also aware of cool things to do and nice places to visit in a city. A record store definitely worth checking out is Rough Trade in London. It is really well selected, has a long and impressing history and is nothing short of an institution for London’s pulsating music scene. But see for yourselves! We shot a little clip while browsing through their shelves…

Cheers,
Kasper

DON’T PUT A SPOKE IN CHICKEN LIPS’ WHEEL!

[HearDis! 246]

It’s far from euphemistic to call the œuvre of UK-producers Andy Meecham and Dean Meredith legendary. Considering the large number of great releases these guys have collected under their belt ever since the late nineties, it’s no surprise they’d come correct on their newest twelve inch. It’s called D.R.O.M.P (Don’t Rain On My Parade) and flaunts that NYC eighties vibe that made so many clubbers fall in love with the Lips over the years. Talk about a potential club hit…
