SHADOWBOXING

[HearDis! 228]

Shadowbox is the nom de plume of Bonnie Baxter, a Brooklyn-based producer, singer and songwriter who made today’s HUGO Track. The song is called ‘AM’, and it pulls on a lot of the sounds of the moment – droning synths, psychedelic harmonies, noises that make you think of the word ‘witch’. We’re giving it away for free, and there’s a nice video to go with the song below.

CHECKED

Check out checked shirts this fall. And no, I don’t mean the comfy lumberjack shirts you guys love to wear with destroyed jeans on the weekend, but perfectly tailored shirts with decent checked prints. They instantly spice up any business suit and they also work with jeans, of course. Get some inspiration from the HUGO looks for fall 2012!

PS: For an advanced styling go for a checked coat – oh so very preppy!

QUIET NIGHTS WITH SLOANE ALABASTER

[HearDis! 212]

We’ve always loved the classic sounds of bossa nova, but, as you know, we’re suckers for new music, which is why we’re really into this new song from Sloane Alabaster. Masterfully sampling and contorting Getz and Gilberto’s rendition of “Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars” with Astrud Gilberto on vocals, the Tokyo-based producer has brought the timeless song straight into the future.

MORE LIKE A PIECE OF ART

When I first saw this look on the HUGO runway back in January I must admit that it didn’t really catch my eye. However, when selecting the HUGO Fashion Show Pieces for our stores and online store, I insisted on this particular look. Why? First of all, I am intrigued by the asymmetric shape (the upper left part reminds me of a kimono). Secondly, I love the white stripes because they transform the exceptionally shaped little black dress into a modern piece of art. Oh, and on top of that I love modern and avant-garde dresses in general, because nothing represents fashion-forwardness as much as they do.

FREE DOWNLOAD, SERIOUSLY

Mind Fair is a project by producers Dean Meredith and Ben Shenton, who’ve released music on the Uruguayan label, International Feel, and are set to release some more material on one of our favorite labels of the moment, Golf Channel. Before that happens, though, Mind Fair is debuting a side project called 21st Century Fox, a collaboration with vocalist Lauren Faulkner. We’ve got our favorite track from the new EP here (it’s called ‘Serious Love’) for free download. Don’t sleep. It’ll be gone before you know it.

NEW IN – THE HUGO FASHION SHOW PIECES

Have you ever wanted to shop an exclusive look that you’ve seen 1:1 walking down the runway? Well, I have. Many times. This is why I am really excited to tell you that we have selected some highlight looks from the HUGO Fashion Show Fall/Winter 2012, which are now available in our stores and online. The HUGO Fashion Show Pieces are strictly limited and absolute showstoppers. So I am happy to present you the first two looks here on the HUGO Blog. Therefore I asked HUGO designers Eyan Allen and Bart de Backer for the original sketches in order to show you how the Fashion Show Pieces come alive – first on paper and then on the runway. Take a look!
Now, you can shop the HUGO Fashion Show Pieces and decide how their story continues. Be sure to tweet me a snapshot @HUGOBOSS, if you decide to get one of the limited Fashion Show Pieces. I’m so curious to see how you work these looks…

PS: The pink statement coat is mine!

HUGE HAIR AND STEADY DRUM MACHINES

[HearDis! 241]

The Echo Vamper is a British/Danish-DIY-Rock&Roll-Duo with a Cabaret Voltaire feel and they’re named after a German Harmonica. That itself is reason enough to feature them on our blog? Yeah, we thought so too! But: If you paid close attention to Kasper Bjørke’s post on the I Love You Magazine-Party in Berlin, you’re already familiar with this firecracker-combo. They are a real-life couple and whether it be on stage or on your portable media player, these two are so not beating around the bush! Here’s “Goodbye Blue Skies” from their conveniently titled EP “It’s The Echo Vamper”. You may wanna try to check these two out on their world tour throughout September!

KASPER MEETS THE ECHO VAMPER AT I LOVE YOU MAGAZINE PARTY

[YouTube tlhXPE1eARg]

Hey Everyone,

it’s Kasper again! You know HUGO brought me out to sunny Berlin for Fashion Week in July and here’s another episode of my adventures: So this one night, after checking out a couple of nice shows and restaurants, I was invited for a night cap at the official party of the newly launched I Love You Magazine. I was keen on checking it out since, besides going through the usually entertaining melange of drinks and interesting people, I was really excited to see the Danish/English band “The Echo Vamper”, who were supposed to perform at the party and are managed by a dear friend of mine. And since sharing is caring, I spontaneously decided to stop by at their soundcheck for a brief chitchat and we also shot some more footage of the night, which was nothing but a good old time! So, if I were you, I’d simply hit play!

So long,

Kasper

CHECKING OUT THE NEW ORDER EXHIBIT AT HBC

[YouTube hrzptQJIoJM]

Hello, hello,

Nina here! If you followed my recent posts, you’re probably aware of the fact that Berlin Fashion Week was a crazy busy, yet really fun time for me this year. And when it comes to opportunities like seeing an exhibit on one of my favorite bands of all time, there’s is no way I’m gonna miss out! If you’re like me and can’t help but find yourself listening to New Order and Joy Division records over and over again for many many years, this would sooo have been your cup of tea! So the lovely people at HBC in Berlin were kind enough to host an exhibit on the entire history of the legendary New Order artworks from June 21st to July 4th and in case you missed it, well – here’s a little video wrap-up of this beautiful time! If you like what you see, make sure to stay tuned for more posts from my end… See ya!

Kisses,
Nina

OF BAGS AND MEN

Females consider bags an essential accessory. However, with men it’s a complete different story. There are men who wouldn’t be seen dead carrying a handbag and then there are men who go with the fashion movement sporting the latest designer bags. I am clearly more into the latter. Why? First of all, keys, mobile phone and wallet simply don’t fit into a skinny pants’ pockets – and I’m a huge fan of skinnier-fit clothing, especially of the HUGO menswear collection, of course. Secondly, as much as I love oversized bags, I’m getting tired of carrying my boyfriend’s belongings. And last but not least, bags simply are a useful idea. So it’s time to emancipate, guys. Meaning? Get you own stylish-yet-casual bag like this one from the new HUGO Fall 2012 collection.
