LOOKBOOK: RAW AND UNCUT

Ah, fashion shows! Watching a fashion show grow from just a few squares and seating charts on a piece of paper into a huge fashion event with editors, celebrities and photographers is amazing – every time again! And there is nothing more exciting than the hustle and bustle backstage in preparation of the show. I already took you behind the scenes, big time, but there is still one particular snapshot I want to share with you: It’s the lookbook of the new HUGO collection at its earliest stage and in its rawest version. Very inspiring – don’t you think?

OUR FANTASY IS HER FANTASY

[HearDis! 224]

Matthew Dear is a longtime HUGO Tracks favorite, so we were super excited to hear that he’s got a new album coming out on August 28. (It’s called Beams, and it’s being released by Ghostly International.) The lead single from the LP is called “Her Fantasy,” and it’s amazing. Leaning slightly toward the tropical sounds that seem to be omni-present in synthier electronic music today, it still maintains a distinct Matthew Dear sound –  especially when his trademark raspy vocals come in.

MY THRILLING EXPERIENCE AT THE HUGO FASHION SHOW IN BERLIN

[YouTube FLVXAV8lti8]

Hello boys and girls,

I’m still a bit high on life from this sensational day, so I’ll keep things brief: On July 5th the big day had finally arrived where I got to sit in the front row of the HUGO Fashion Show at Berlin Fashion Week. I had goose bumps all over me from the very beginning and when I, at last, saw the models float down the runway to the special HUGO version of my song “For You” (which is still available for free download here, wink wink), my heart surely missed more than one beat! Sooo exciting! But you may see for yourselves: here’s a little video recap!

Love,
Nina

THE OSTRICH AND THE SHOOTING STAR

[YouTube R43_1PEV9RA]

Did you know that top model Kasia Struss’s real name is Katarzyna Strusińska? And that apparently “Strusińska” is similar to the word “ostrich” in Polish?
Watch the first video to find out more about top model Kasia Struss and be sure to check out clip number two featuring the gorgeous German shooting star Franzi Müller talking about her career and what it feels like to trip on the runway.

NATURAL BEAUTIES

When it comes to make-up, this spring/summer is all about a natural look. The essentials? Natural yet tidy brows, a light foundation, very little bronzing powder for a sun-kissed look, rosy cheeks and sheer lip gloss. Take a look at natural beauties Nadja Bender, Kasia Struss, Madison Headrick, Ava Smith and German shooting star Franzi Müller getting their make-up backstage at the HUGO Fashion Show Spring/Summer 2013. Oh how I would love to have our HUGO hair and make-up team here at the HUGO BOSS headquarters…

THESE STREETS WILL NEVER LOOK THE SAME

[HearDis! 218]

Johnny Jewel can do no wrong in my book. Slowly the genius producer and mastermind behind projects like Symmetry, Glass Candy, Desire and Chromatics has built his label, Italians Do it Better, into being one of the most interesting outputs for electronic indie music – with that signature Italo disco twist. The Chromatics latest album, Kill For Love, is easily the best so far in 2012.
I have had the pleasure of playing DJ sets before a couple of their live shows over the years, the latest one having been at the beginning of their current European tour, at Distortion Festival in Copenhagen. They are indeed as great on stage as on record. The setting in a majestic glass building right on the Copenhagen harbour didn’t make it any less of a great experience. The track “These Streets Will Never Look The Same” is one of my favorite songs off the album. If you didn’t buy it yet, hurry up – and try to catch them on the road as well.

HUGO HAIR

We’re back behind the scenes at the HUGO Fashion Show Spring/Summer 2013. In the hair & beauty pop-up department, to be precise. Of course, the hair and make-up always has to be in line with the collection. This time, the futuristic looks desperately called for some strong and understated hairstyles and voila, the wet-look chignon was born. How to style it? Straighten your hair, work in some styling gel and either wrap your hair into a neat coil and fix it with hair pins (luxe version, as seen on the runway) or twist your hair and simply wrap a hair band around the bun (undone version, very popular with fashion bloggers).
