Camo Chameleon

It’s time to stand out with the print that’s traditionally meant to conceal. Camouflage and its military provenance get subverted this spring with a big injection of femininity by playing on a floral theme. The redefined classic gets a modern twist, making it easier than ever to wear this perennial trend.

BOSS Womenswear creative director Jason Wu’s Spring/Summer 2017 runway collection was packed with a new take on the print – vivid hues of electric blue, scarlet red and forest green were mixed in a modernized camouflage pattern. The shattered lines and speckled textures were reminiscent of David Hockney’s pool series paintings, where the inspiration sprang from. Head-totoe camo was seen on jacquard jackets and shirt-dresses for a relaxed sporty look or graced vertical panels of crepe pleats for an elegant and architectural feel.

Maximise it: wear the pattern oversized and top-to-toe for a striking graphic look. Keep accessories like jewellery to a minimum to make the print the main attraction.

Add a dash: inject some playfulness into your outfit by adding a hint of the camouflage print – whether as a shirt underneath a monochrome suit, or as dress underneath a long jacket.

Make it pop: add the print to elements of your outfit to make them pop – sophisticated tailoring contrasted with the daring colour palette of a camo shoe or bag adds vibrant energy to your look.

Don’t be afraid of a bold print. Break up black with these primary shades and poppy patterns to modernise your everyday look. Stand out from the crowd this spring.
